Ernest Lawson

SOLD- Ernest Lawson (Canadian, 1873-1939) - Oil- SOLD

oil on board. 11 1/4" H X 5" W (17 1/2" X 11 1/4"). It is unsigned so technically is 'attributed' to. HOWEVER. The provenance is from one of NY's most prominent galleries from the 70s/80's:
Salander-O'Reilly Galleries Label. Bill O'Reilly had one of the best 'eyes' in the business most will acknowledge. One of the tell tale signs are the hairline cracks because he applied the impasto so thickly. It is common to 90% of his oils. This a plus not a minus! Also the board is consistent with what the artist used. However, it is unsigned and appears to be an oil sketch for a larger work. You have the option of the original frame and mat but it isn't much to speak of except- Salander-O'Reilly label and inventory number verso on mat board.
